PC Maintenance is like giving your car an MOT and a Service, but for computers. Like with cars, if you dont give them a good service and health check every so often things will go wrong and start to break. By performing regular maintenance you can help maintain the smooth running of your pc and also prolong its life.

Ok, so what is involved?

First off, there are two commong kinds of maintenance. There is routine maintenance and non-routine maintenance. As their name suggests, routine maintenance is the maintenance you would perform routinely. For example a car would have an MOT or Service completed yearly and typically around the same time every year. This would be the routine. The non-routine maintenance for example would be getting the cam belt changed as this is not something you would perform all to regular.

So a computer maintenance would typically consist of;

• Adware & Spyware checking and Removal
• Data Corruption Checks
• Fragmentation Checking and correction
• Removal of old Temporary Files
• Removal of old index.dat files
• Clearing Memory Dumps
• Removing Missing Shared DLL's
• Removing Unused File Extensions
